Writer's Block: Family planning [Oct. 23rd, 2010|09:30 am]
[Current Mood |awakeawake]
[Current Music |Dave Matthews - Dodo]

If you wanted to have children and had trouble conceiving, would you be more likely to consider IVF, surrogacy, or adoption, and why?

I would most definitely choose adoption.  There are so many kids out there already waiting for a family of their own.  Rather than spend tons of money on medical procedures that may not even work, I would prefer to adopt.  I personally feel quite strongly about adoption... My younger brother is adopted, and although there were difficult times, I love him very much and his unique situation helped make me the person I am today.  My parents are very good people and I admire them so much for making the decision to adopt.  It is something that I intend to do in the future, whether I am able to bear children or not.  Being the best mom possible is more important to me than passing on my bloodline.

I can sleep in my bed again! [Oct. 22nd, 2010|05:46 pm]
[Current Mood |relievedrelieved]
[Current Music |Robyn - Criminal Intent]

Thanks to George, my furniture has finally been moved and I've got all my electronics set up again (wheee, my Mac Mini is online for the first time in ages!!!). There's still a fair amount of crap to deal with over there. More dishes, a little laundry, and lots of random things that I don't know what to do with. I've tossed out a lot already! Anyway, my move isn't over, but what remains can be handled on my own over the rest of this weekend. Money issues have worked themselves out, so I think I'll rent a Zipcar for tomorrow to do some transfers and maybe take a trip to IKEA to look at bed sheets... I'm also meeting up with Nell for dinner in the evening, so having a car might be nice so I don't have to run off early because of public transportation.

George seems to have made my gross old armchair his new gaming chair, haha...

I'm in Philadelphia! [Oct. 14th, 2010|11:57 pm]
[Current Location |Philadelphia]
[Current Mood |cheerfulcheerful]

I'm back in Philly!  I was here awhile ago for Heather's bridal shower.  This time I'm not mucking around with public transportation.  I have a rental car AND a GPS (from the rental place), so I can go wherever I want.  I'm at the Comfort Inn on N. Christopher Columbus Blvd.  It's not one of the hotels with blocks for Heather's wedding... I couldn't afford those... but it's on the same street, and we should be able to walk right down the road to the wedding.  The Moshulu is on this street as well.  Or, is accessed on this street.  It is a boat, after all.  And we should still be able to go after-partying at the Hyatt where a lot of the other guests are staying.

I'm rather pleased with my hotel room!!  I got one with two queen beds (since my friend Becky is joining me tomorrow night), and we happen to be on the 6th floor, in a corner of the building--so we've got windows on two walls.  One window looks right out level to a freeway, but the other offers a view of the Benjamin Franklin bridge and the river!  Free wi-fi internet, so yay!  ... What the crap is that?... I'm looking at the TV, and it appears to have an old Nintendo-64 controller sitting on top of it!  (INVESTIGATING...)  Hahaha!  Oh my god, it basically is!  It's an N-64 controller, but it's set up as part of some kind of game ordering system.  That's pretty rad, hah!

Well, Becky will be arriving at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon.  She's coming via Bolt bus, I think.  I'll go pick her up near the train station where they drop off.  (I know I'm going to be grateful for GPS.)  I'm going to let myself sleep in just a little... not too late, though!  I need to go out and get a few things that will help me gussy up for the wedding!  (Specifically, a disposable razor, so I can expose my legs in a dress.)  The wedding is at 6:00 in the evening.

Pretending to have a family of my own, haha... [Oct. 11th, 2010|12:10 am]

[Current Mood |hopefulhopeful]

I treated Jerry's kids to a movie today.  I picked them up when they returned from church, took them into Harvard Square for pizza (and discovered a street fair clogging up traffic) then we saw Legends of the Guardians at the Fresh Pond Cinemas.  VERY pretty movie.  Kind of intense for kids, though.  Not gory or anything, but lots of battles and drama and creepy environments.  However, Anneliese and Xavier claimed they loved it!  They looked terrified through most of it, but oookay...  I think they just liked getting to go out.  We had Icees and popcorn at the movie, and I let them play arcade games beforehand to kill time.  Anneliese actually got a toy out of a claw machine on her first try!  And we kept singing Sugar, Sugar in the car, haha.  It was the first thing that my iPod played when we got in the car, and Xavier kept requesting it the rest of the day.  The kids were still hollering it when I left their house this evening.  :-P

It was a nice day.  :-)  I promised the kids we'd do it again soon.  If not a movie, some sort of outing.  I enjoy spending time with them.  I can pretend they're mine, ha!!!!  When we were in Harvard Square and trying to get through the crowds of people, Xavier clung to my hand and it just killed me a little inside.  Cutest little boy.  Not as little as he used to be, though!!  I hope he stays as sweet as he is...  Anneliese is definitely growing up fast, too.  She's already morphing into the body of a teenager.

I sure hope I get to be a mommy someday.

Twitterpated. Again. [Jul. 24th, 2010|04:28 pm]
[Current Mood |melancholymelancholy]

Why can't there be a switch I can flip to turn off my ability to fall in love?  Because I'm so very tired of the same thing happening over and over, but I can't seem to help myself.  I'm both miserable and happy.  This must be what insanity feels like.

INTERNET! [Jun. 27th, 2010|06:37 pm]

[Current Music |Tink and Jack chirping from their cage...]

Hooray for Virgin Mobile's new wireless broadband device!!!  I now have internet at home without having to deal with routers or stupid tech support people!  It's just a little jump-drive USB device that I can use anywhere on any computer I want... granted, the signal strength here in my apartment sucks.  I knew it would.  I have to stand near a window just to get cell phone service.  But at least it's something.

So I should be able to post waaaaaay more often again!!  Yay!  I haven't written for quite awhile... I'm gonna have to go back and read the last thing I wrote to know what all I need to include in my update!

In the laser lab again. [May. 8th, 2010|01:27 pm]
[Current Location |Boston Architectural College]
[Current Mood |calmcalm]

I'm at the architectural school yet again.  Lasering.  Obviously.

And this gives me time to kill while the laser is doing its thing.

I stopped in at an art supply store in Central Square to get more black cardstock, but came out with a fancy-shmancy notebook, calligraphy nibs, and india ink.  Why?  They were pretty and I got this ridiculous romantic vision of myself writing journal entries in ink by candle-light, haha.  Which I'll probably never do, but I COULD...

I started recording another Beatles cover last night.  Maybe if I ever get around to building my website, I'll make a page for my imaginary band, haha.

It's dumping rain today.  :-(  Very annoying for people trying to carry around large quantities of paper products (aka. me).

This post is pointless.  I apologize.

Burning plastic... all day... all night. [May. 5th, 2010|09:57 pm]
[Current Location |Boston Architectural College]
[Current Mood |blahblah]

I just realized it's Cinco de Mayo.  I guess the group of drunken, singing Hispanics on the bus after midnight last night makes more sense now...  Huh.  This also means that Moody Street in Waltham will likely be noisy as I'm walking home tonight.

I'm in class right now.  Cutting plexi-glass, actually... WITH THE LASER.  *pyew-pyew-pyew!!*  ... haha, I wish it made that sound.  It really only makes a whiny grinding noise as the laser head moves around.  I'm using the crappy laser cutter, though.  I couldn't make it work this weekend, but the teacher figured out a way and now I'm cutting the clear plexi steps for my little scene design model.  AND IT IS TAKING FOREVER.  The first few cuts seemed to make a lot of progress, but now I've lost count of how many times I've rerun the "print" in an attempt to cut all the way through the plexi.  There's a second sheet to be done... I'm NOT doing it tonight.  I'm exhausted.  I'm sick of smelling burning plexi.  That's what I got to breathe all day today at work!!!!  I was in the shop, left mostly to my own devices, trying to work on the Citgo sign for Johnny Baseball.  The sign is backlit with fluorescent tubes, so the face of it is a huge panel of 3/8" plexi.  Just cutting out the unusual shape (the sign is forced-perspective, so everything's a little off-kilter) and splicing together two sheets of plexi took me all freakin' day.  I was covered in plexi shavings.  Up my nose.  In my shoes.  Ugh.

But I was thankful to be at the shop instead of at load-in at the theatre.  That's where I spent Monday and Tuesday and that was plenty for me!!!  Luckily things seem to be going together without any major problems.  HUGE relief.  I was so stressed since I'm essentially responsible for the drafting of that whole show, with the exception of the rolling wagons that have been Nick's headache for the past few weeks.  Today was intern Katie's last day, though!!  I'm happy I was at the shop so I could say goodbye!!  Although I think we might try to get together for dinner Saturday.  She moves away for her new job on Sunday!!  Heather brought in "cheesecake" to work... by cheesecake, I mean something that closer resembled cool whip, but tasty nonetheless.  And Irene sent over a box of cupcakes for us!!  She was at the load-in... her other job is working at Kick-Ass Cupcakes and whenever she overhires with us, she brings in two or three big boxes full of day-old cupcakes!!  Which are waaaaaay better than the ones I've had from Sweet, by the way.

I've organized a group outing to a roller derby bout on May 15th.  :-)  I bought a batch of tickets online... the games have been selling out this season!!!  We tried to go a couple months ago only to be turned away at the door!  It was super lame.  But this time we're getting in, dammit!  The crew of folks going at this point is Desta, York, Becky, Rena, Heather, a friend of Heather's (whose name I don't know yet), and myself.  I'm excited!!  I just reserved a zipcar for us (I figure York and Desta will get there on their own).

Okay, the freakin' plexi is done.  I'm outta here.

NEED FOOD NOW. [May. 2nd, 2010|05:54 pm]
[Current Location |Boston Architectural College]
[Current Mood |draineddrained]

This laser class is evil.  It doesn't seem to matter how much time I allow... there's always some damned technical difficulty that slows me down.  This time it's the second laser cutter... the Legend Engraver.  It's the older of the two laser cutting machines at this school and nobody uses it unless the M20 is booked.  Well, today the M20 is booked and I thought, "Oh, I'll give the Engraver a try..."  NOT.  It won't even recognize my files, even after I do all the reformatting bullshit so it can be opened in Corel Draw.  LAME.  Anyway... I do have the M20 reserved for Tuesday night, but only for two hours and I'm supposed to have every damned thing cut out before Wednesday's class.  Unless things run perfectly smoothly that evening, I won't be done.  But then again, it seems that nobody else will be either.  I'm not the only one struggling to get shit finished.

I'm going to give up for the day.  I've been on this computer putzing with my drawings since noon and my head hurts.  I haven't eaten anything today but coffee and a blueberry muffin.  >.<

However, my weekend has been pleasant despite homework difficulties.  Friday night we had a boardgame night at the Chrises'.  Friday was a good day in general... I amused myself all morning seeing how long it took my coworkers to notice the purple streaks I put in my hair the previous night.  Most folks noticed it pretty fast and everyone said it looks really cool.  Yay!  Then later on after work when I was riding to game night with York and Desta, I asked if they wanted to hear any of my covers of Beatles songs... so I played my recordings of Dear Prudence and Across The Universe... and York RAVED about my voice, haha!!  He's such a sweetheart, lol.  Easily impressed, but a sweetheart nonetheless.  But he actually got really specific about what he liked... even said that I have a great sense of shaping the instrumentals and so on.  I think my cheeks turned a little red when he said that.  It meant he was noticing stuff I'd put in the music that I figured nobody else would pick up on.  I happen to disagree with his statement that my voice is amazing, but it was still pleasant to hear, haha.  Put me in a good mood for all of Saturday!

Apparently a water main busted yesterday and most of the Boston area has no drinkable tap water because it may be contaminated!  Everyone is supposed to boil their water right now!  Luckily Girl Chris texted me last night to tell me... Earlier I'd heard muffled announcements from a cop car cruising Waltham, like they do when there's a snow emergency, but I couldn't make out what he was saying.  Good thing she gave me the heads-up, because I would totally have been drinking water from the tap last night.  I was super thirsty... maybe it was psychological since I knew I wasn't supposed to drink it, haha.  The tap water ban is still in effect today.  The Dunkin' Donuts in Waltham couldn't sell any beverages, haha.

Oye, I'm hungry.  My headache is getting worse.  I'm getting the hell out of here.

One more thing... this coming week is going to suck big time.  Load-in for Johnny Baseball starts tomorrow.  So now any little thing that I may have drafted wrong is going to become very apparent as we try to put things together... STRESS!!!!  Well, at least tomorrow we're just dealing with the floor, really.  And after work I'm going to a movie with Desta and Nell.
