Blargh.

How is it possible for me to play FFX for nearly seven hours straight without realizing how long I've been at it????

Seriously. I have to TRY not to play that game tonight. Sleep is important.

Also, I made pancakes at 11:30 last night, haha. It was awesome. I threw all sorts of things in the batter... peanut butter, pecans, syrup. So I was playing Final Fantasy and eating pancakes in the middle of the night, haha.

And I have to thank my cat for waking me this morning. Apparently when I set the time for my alarm, I hit the wrong button and the alarm never went off. Luckily, Percy decided he needed some early morning snuggles and I only got up 9 minutes later than intended.

Dammit, computer. Hurry up. Had to download the newest version of iTunes in order to download my pre-order of the new Muse album. But lunch will end soon and I still have to download the songs!!!

... I didn't eat. I should have gone for food.

This takes forever!

Last night i discovered that my crappy little Virgin Mobile phone actually CAN access the internet fairly easily. However... It takes so long to wade through pages on this tiny screen, perhaps this isnt as exciting a discovery as i first thought, haha. But at least this means i dont have to harass my folks via phone to look things up for me. In other news, my brother sent Final Fantasy X to Boston with me and i am now addicted.

Back in the ol' Northwest

I flew home yesterday. All went well, no problems at all. Jenni, Tearsa, and Cat were all at the airport to greet me. ^_^ We hung out all day at Jenni's place in Camas, met her doggie Shaun (total sweetie!), ordered pizza, played with makeup (making ourselves look like 1920s silent film stars), and in the evening my folks came to pick me up and bring me home to Castle Rock. I'm so tired... Uff.

In a couple hours I'm going to go pick my grandparents up and take them out to lunch at the 49er Restaurant. Obviously I haven't been there in ages, haha. So I've already tarted myself up a bit just in case I run into anybody I know. I feel this need to look sophisticated and successful whenever I come back to this place.

Anyway, glad to be home. It's going to be a tad hectic this week, I suppose. I'm going to be at Jenni's place more than anywhere else as we gear up for doing our Nekopan thing at Kumoricon. New story, new costumes -- we're gonna look so cute!! My mother has offered to put the zipper in my dress for me tonight. Then I just have to worry about hemming and adding details like the buttons. And I need to figure out how I'm going to do my hair... it's too long to fit the 1920s... I'm going to have to get crafty about hiding the length. The style of makeup actually suits me quite well. I was surprised.

Think I'll do some research now while I've got the internet readily available to me...

Sewing up a storm.

It looks like a fabric tornado hit my apartment. Scraps of fabric and quilting quarters are strewn all over the living room floor in the wake of my recent late-night sewing projects... Doll clothes. Yes. Specifically, doll clothes for Anneliese's American Girl doll.

It all started this past weekend...

After work Friday, I was essentially kidnapped by Jerry and his family for the entire weekend. I was at their place in Saugus until Sunday evening!! I got to spend nearly all of Saturday playing with the kids in their little pool, haha. But earlier on Saturday, Anneliese was showing me her American Girl doll's furniture up in her bedroom (Anneliese is Jerry's 10-year-old daughter). Anneliese has a friend named Emily next door who also has an American Girl doll. Apparently they get together so their dolls can go "shopping" using small gift bags as shopping bags. And Anneliese made doll-sized magazines by cutting up old American Girl catalogs and stapling them back together. So cute!! I pleased her by French braiding her doll's hair... I think that may be the first time I've successfully done that, haha. Anyway, I promised Anneliese that when I return from my trip to Washington, I'd bring my Samantha doll and all her clothes, and that I'd let her babysit my doll from time to time, haha.

Sunday morning, Tasha took the kids to church and I was helping Jerry with yard work... but we took a break to make a trip to JoAnn's Fabrics to look for potential throw-pillow fabric. Jerry didn't find anything he liked, but I became fixated on the idea of making doll clothes after flipping through some pattern catalogs. Like a woman possessed, I snatched up several pattern sets that I liked and about as many quarter-flats as I could carry. (They were only 98 cents each, why not?? As long as I got two of each color/print, I'd have more than enough to make a doll-sized outfit.) I was so excited to go back and show Anneliese what I'd bought, haha. And they weren't even home yet when we returned!!! Oh it killed me to wait!! But eventually the kids were back and I showed Anneliese the patterns and the fabrics and we set to planning outfits!! :-) When I got home Sunday evening, I immediately cranked out a little yellow sundress before going to bed, haha. And now I'm modifying that same pattern to create a green gingham dress with white eyelet trimmings. I didn't make any progress on it last night because I got distracted watching a movie... and I'd come home later than usual because I unexpectedly ended up working a 10-hour day.

But anyway, I feel like I'm going a little crazy because here I am, 25, daydreaming about all the fabulous outfits I'm going to make for our American Girl dolls, all so I can go have a dolly tea party with a 10-year-old. :-P I can't wait to show Anneliese what I've already made, hahaha. I'm seriously considering coming up with a fake doll boutique name so I can make my own little shopping bags to deliver the dresses to her. I'm such a freak!!! Between this and my My Little Pony collection, haha... I'm so special.

And why the heck am I so fired up about this project when I ought to be doing things for Nekopan??!! I wish I had more control over what projects I throw my energy into.

I wanna take a ride on your disco stick...

Okay, why the hell do I enjoy Lady GaGa so much?!! Hahaha. She's so over the top, but awesome at the same time.

Yay for the weekend. I'm going over to the Chrises' house for a game night later this evening. For now, I'm sitting in the mall, lookin' cute and wasting money on iTunes.

I didn't go to work on Thursday. I woke up feeling horrible... I felt like I'd been wrung out like a sponge, completely drained. My throat was sore and dry, my eyes felt dry, my muscles were all sore. I called in sick, drank a crapload of water, then passed back out until 3:00 in the afternoon. I felt SO much better. I think I must have been horribly dehydrated!! ... I'm being more careful about that now. The weather has been pretty warm these days.

That night, George popped over to my apartment to play some Rock Band and Guitar Hero with me. It's the first time I've let him in there since... well, probably since around the time I first moved in! I never have anyone over because I'm so paranoid about seeming messy. But since my place is still pretty spic and span from my folks' visit, all it took was straigtening up and a vacuum and it was presentable again. I ordered pizza for us. George wanted to try Rock Band (I recently bought the game disc used... I don't have any of the extra peripherals yet, so we can only play guitar on it), and then between the two of us, we played through the entirety of Guitar Hero I on Medium. My game data had been corrupted somehow so I lost all my previous scores. I started working on Expert again this morning, haha.

I'm going to be back to working in the shop starting Monday. I guess they've finally built a few pieces that need paint and I have to do some research and preparation for making fake wallpaper... swatching paint colors and cutting a couple stencils. It's going to be the ugliest wallpaper ever... stripes of brown with a graphic that I guess is supposed to be a mandrake root, but it looks more like a dancing pepper throwing olives, haha.

Today is my father's birthday. I haven't called him yet, but a few minutes ago I checked my email and found that he put $50 on MY Dunkin' Donuts giftcard. Dad!! You're supposed to GET presents on your birthday, not the other way around!! :-P My dear daddy is too nice to me.

Mission Accomplished

Six hours of sitting on my ass in this lab last night produced six decent renderings, four of which (five if you count the background) I used in my "final composition." I actually did have time to do a tiny bit of Photoshopping... really just to warm up the images and give them a bit of atmospheric fuzziness (they looked way too crisp!).

So I came here again after work today to burn the entire project to a CD before it is due at 7:15... so yes, I'm just killing time now... But I accidentally moved a folder right before burning, and it confused the program and made it forget where all my texture maps were!!! Luckily I was able to repath them all quickly. I'm pretty sure it's all in order again. Crisis averted. Hurray for it being done!! I just have to hand over the disc and then I'm outta here! I'm SO hitting up the ice cream place out here on Newbury Street. I deserve a treat. :-)

I'm gonna toss my final images up on my LJ Scrapbook right now... I'll come back and edit this post in a few minutes to include them.

Edit: Nevermind. It's blowing the compy's mind to try to upload such large images. I'll have to resize them and upload them later.

Seemed to take forever getting home last night. I must have just missed bus 70 because I waited a good 40 minutes before one showed up. ... In my upset mood over Nekopan, I ate nearly an entire bag of peanut butter M&Ms before finally getting to bed, and my stomach is punishing me for it today.

This lunch break is going way too fast, what the hell?

Today is Lexi's last day. She doesn't move to Oregon immediately, but she won't be back to the shop. She made Jason and Tom's birthday cake in advance, haha. I'm certain the whole thing is gone already.

I need to make cheesecake tonight.

Turns out that the Waltham library is closed today as well for the Memorial Day holiday... But I'm still picking up the wireless internet from outside, bwahahah! I just have to be fast because I know I don't have much battery power on this laptop. Plus this screen is hella hard to see in daylight.

Yesterday I rented a Zipcar and spent my day tearing around Massachusetts running errands... JoAnn's Fabrics in Burlington to buy fabric and a pattern for the new Nekopan Sweets costume... went to IKEA in Stoughton "just to look" and ended up spending $70 anyway on random shit... hit up PETCO for a betta fishy to go in my second tank (which has been sitting empty for a long time now)... and made a massive grocery shopping trip. So yesterday was expensive, but good.

Tonight, I'm meeting up with Becky to see Freezepop at Great Scott in Allston!! Woot! That'll be awesome!

I am still alive.

Hey everyone. Prompted by a concerned called from Jenny, I just want to make note here that yes, I am alive and well. I haven't been online for a long time, partially due to a week-long illness. I caught a nasty cold last weekend and ended up missing two days of work over it. So I spent all my free time sleeping rather than going to the library or other such places to use the internet. I'm much better now. I think the coughing is nearly over with. I'm hanging out at George's place right now, playing some Guitar Hero and stealing music from each other.

Hope everyone out there is good.

Cut my hair!

No pictures at the moment, but I hacked off 7-inches of hair and gave myself bangs... about 45 minutes ago, haha. It's still a little more than shoulder-length. And it looks good. I'm shocked! I scrunched it and misted it with hairspray as it dried, so now I've got wavy curls like, woah. It's the hotness. :-P So I tarted myself up with red nail polish and a little make-up, just to come to the library. Heehee... Of course now I'm squinting because I didn't want to ruin my look by wearing my glasses. *Rolls eyes*

I downloaded iTunes for my laptop and spent a lil' too much money yesterday buying music (for the first time in ages!), and then I remembered that I still have $45-worth of iTunes gift cards from my Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Wayne that I haven't redeemed. SWEET. Guess what I'm about to do, haha.

I ought to be outside though! It's WARM! And sunny! I walked here without a jacket! And in flip-flops (HURRAY!). The pair of swans has appeared on the river again. Lord, they're huge...

Hope everyone else is doing well.

I love the shit I come across while researching things at work, haha.

In other news... Poker tonight. Here's hoping for more good luck!

Also, I am wearing an awesome Hello Kitty shirt today.

And I have two very unfortunately placed pimples on my forehead... looks like a vampire bit me in the face, haha.

K, done being ramdom! Bye bye now!

I'm okay after all.

Not an ear infection after all. Turns out that a freakin' huge blob of earwax had completely covered my eardrum, rendering me temporarily deaf. I waited ages at the urgent care clinic in Waltham for a doc to look at me for 30 seconds and tell me this. Then I had to wait ages again for a nurse to come in and flush out my ear with warm water to clear out the blockage. Heh, I was amused when she said, "Oh, wait 'til you see what just popped out to visit!" ... she was speaking of positively gigantic mass of grossness that came out of my right ear. I swear, it looks like it could have been a living thing. I would never imagine such a thing could fit inside my ear in the first place.

Anyway. Problem solved. My ear is hella sore from being prodded (and the water flushing was far from comfortable), but I can hear just fine now.

Pay to play... again.

It seems that none of the "free public wi-fi" networks are functioning... or they're overloaded. So I've paid for another hour of internet time through Boingo. I have nothing else to do. My flight to Boston leaves at 6:15.

So I'm in New Jersey. And now I'm finally looking forward to going home. I just don't want to be in an airport anymore, haha.

I slept through most of the flight here. And I was out of it enough to completely miss the breakfast service. I woke up to find everyone else with breakfast sandwiches. But I didn't really care all that much and immediately passed out again. I did have to pee on the plane for the first time!! Those little bathrooms are interesting, haha. And I was next to a kid again, but this time it was a really well-behaved child who kept himself entertained with a little handheld hockey game and playing Uno with his father.

Another hour to wait.

I'm in the Sea-Tac airport. I forked up the money to get on their AT&T wi-fi network.

Well, I'm going back to Boston today. I don't really want to go yet. I feel really tired and I'm not looking forward to working on Sunday. I do want to see my cat, though.

This vacation felt too short--partially because of the NekoPan thing, but I'm still glad we did it. I think I'm also dreading returning to Boston because I know I'll be super busy in the next couple weeks, dealing with The Seagull load-in and trying to crank out my Aloha, Say The Pretty Girls design and a model before the 12th. They'd even like a preliminary design by the 6th, so I have to get on the ball immediately. I have something partially drawn up in AutoCAD already.

My bro is a sweetheart. He randomly gave me $15 bucks. I protested, but he wanted me to take it to buy my Seattle airport shot-glass and maybe some food. Heh, I really am doing the airport shot-glass collection. I've missed out on a lot of cities already, but at least I have Boston, New York, New Jersey, and Seattle now.

Alrighty. Gonna dink around on a few other websites until boarding time. I may or may not be able to get online again in Newark during my layover.

Ciao!

M.E.W. Con, here we come!!

In about 15 minutes, I'm gonna roll outta here in my dad's big-ass truck to pick up Teepa and head to Jen's!! I've got all the Nekopan gear loaded up. Cookies, tarts, costume, booth, etc. I'm just waiting on some painted mugs to bake... I made a couple really cute sets of Nekopan fruit coffee mugs using Pebeo glass/ceramic paint, which has to be baked for a bit in order to make it food safe.

Tonight is going to be a whirlwind of cupcake decorating and packaging! Hopefully we won't let ourselves get too stressed out. I'm still really looking forward to New Year's Eve--we intend to get wonderfully wasted.

Edit: Aw, sad. One of the coffee mugs cracked. All the paint turned out just lovely (except the blue... it faded some). But one of my cranberry mugs has hairline cracks all over it. So we can't sell it, but I bet we could use it for something else... throw it in the case for additional decoration or something.

Merry Christmas!!! I HAZ NEW COMPUTER!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!! I am back in Washington--we got home to Castle Rock at 3:30 this morning, uff! My luggage is delayed yet again because of a flight shuffle yesterday, but at least I had all my Christmas gifts in my carry-on. So I'm writing from home, wirelessly, on my NEW COMPAQ LAPTOP!! (Thank you Santa!) :-) If you're thinking, "My god, Kristin! A non-Mac???!!!" Yes, well... This "bastard cousin" as I've already named it will be my AutoCAD workstation. And it'll be handy having a laptop again once I get into grad school. I suspected I was getting this, heehee... My parents were saying things that made me nearly certain I was getting some sort of computer. Woot-woot for new electronics! :-) Now I can put my AutoCAD disc to use... *shifty eyes*... and finally get awesome games like Portal, bwahaha! I bet I could play Spore now too. Score!

In other news... Snow like crazy! I've never seen so much snow in Washington! Our back deck is two feet deep in it! Getting home last night took forever because my father was driving sooooo slowly. New Englanders would scoff, but here in the Northwest, any amount of snow freaks us all out. It was dumping snow this morning too. My family is delaying Christmas dinner until tomorrow. Partially because we're all too exhausted to spend the day cooking, but mostly because the weather makes it difficult to get over to my grandparents' place.

Hooray internets!! I really HAVE to get it going again when I return to Waltham. I think I'm going to call RCN and see what they can do for me. Fuck Verizon.

NOOOO!!! All my 3D modeling work!!!!!

W. T. F. !!!!!!!!!!!!

AutoCAD has shit all over my work from earlier this week!!!!!! It fucking FORGOT everything I did last time I worked on the file (which is retarded because I was constantly saving my work) and it did something bizarre with the 3D solid that made up half of my house... It's like nothing I subtracted went away... it all came back and grouped itself into a giant mass that I can't fix without completely remodeling that section!!! So now I have an assload of unfinished windows again. My lovely fence is gone... the building in the background is gone... BUT my layers manager still shows the layers I created for both the fence and for the background building!! So AutoCAD kind of remembers that it existed. And the thumbnail preview for the file is just fine. It shows everything as I left it last. But once I open the file, it's all fucked. Both copies--both the one on the school server and the copy I put on my jump drive. I tried running the back-up file--and it also created a correct thumbnail image, showing the fence and the completed building. But if I open it, I get the same whacked out drawing.

OH I'M SO PISSED. That was hours of work!!! Oh dear lord. I mean, I've still got my renderings to prove that I did it, but my DWG file is all messed up. What the hell went wrong? Obviously it was fucked before I copied it to my jump drive that day. I WANT TO KILL.

I hate Windows machines. *STABS*

Look at what it thinks it's supposed to be!!

GAHHHHH!!! WHY? I spent so long on it and it looked so perfect!!!!! I'm trying very hard not to start bawling at this moment.

Sneak peek at my AutoCAD project...

I've created a new Scrapbook gallery for my AutoCAD projects. In my current class (AutoCAD II: 3D Modeling), we're all working on a model of a house our instructor designed. Here are a few quick renderings of my work so far...

One side of the house is still unfinished and I've got a couple missing windows. We haven't learned surface textures yet, so pardon the boring, flat colors of everything, haha. My next task to focus on creating some landscape around the building... maybe even some other simpler buildings in the background. Anything to give it a sense of environment.

Anyway, just wanted to share! It's lots of fun!

Quarter Century (and two days)

Well, as of Thanksgiving, I am 25 years old. Whoop-dee-doo. :-P

I am posting from the shop... yes, it is Saturday. But I'm here to do an extra project painting the upstairs offices for Eckel Industries (they're the folks who rent us our shop).

I did have a nice Thanksgiving/birthday. Both York and I ended up joining the festivities at Jerry's house, which I would write about right now if I had the attention span to do so, haha. I feel all scattered today and I really ought to be painting right now so I can get out of here.

But anyway, I just wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving and thank all the lovelies who sent me birthday wishes. ^_^

One very unhappy note I'd like to make--my Uncle Wayne just found out he has prostate cancer. It's weird, it's like a bunch of my family is suffering health problems all at once. This is coming right at the same time that my grandmother is dealing with a long recovery from knee replacement surgery, my great-aunt Marjorie in Sioux Falls (who turns 90 tomorrow) fell and broke her leg, and my mother's cousin Danny suffered a massive stroke last week... and he's only in his upper-50s. So now Uncle Wayne too... the poor man has had a terrible year already with his work basically forcing him to retire early. *Sigh* Luckily they seem to think it's still at a point where the growth can be removed and he can just get a few radiation treatments... hopefully avoid chemotherapy all together.

Time to paint... before I get myself all depressed.

P.S. Gah, it's freezing in this shop!!!!!

From the B.A.C. again...

I just finished working on my AutoCAD homework at the BAC. So I figured I'd quickly post...

Things are good. I was tremendously relieved when I woke up and heard the election results (although I got crap from my coworkers for not staying up late to find out!). Since I have no internet or TV at home right now, I'd intended to keep tabs on things old-timey style with my clock radio, haha... But I had several pleasant distractions last night which kept me occupied until I found I was too sleepy to care to stay up.

First of all, I found an early birthday gift from my folks. ^_^ Big box at my mailbox! They didn't warn me of it coming, so I was like, "WTF!! I didn't order anything!!" I thought, "That box sure looks like it came from Musician's Friend..." And I was right. A few weeks ago I'd mentioned to my mother that I didn't want anything expensive for my birthday and suggested something like a guitar stand or a spring-clamp capo (because accessories spur me to practice guitar more often, haha). So my father ordered both things, plus a pack of picks (so now I'm swimming in guitar picks because I had a lot beforehand). :-P Maybe I'll make myself earrings, haha.

Then it was pie-making time. Last week I made pumpkin pie and took it to work... but I had failed to realize that paint intern Hayley is strictly vegan (partially due to digestive intolerance to dairy and egg), so she couldn't eat pumpkin pie (it has egg and evaporated milk in it). So I felt bad and asked her what her favorite fruit pie is so I could make one for her this week. She asked for apple. The only thing I had to change in the recipe was to swap butter out for margarine--oh, and you'd be surprised how many margarines still have dairy in them somehow. Shaw's only had one brand that was completely vegetable and soy based. Anyway...This pie turned out so good! I was nervous because my first apple pie was tasty, but not quite what I wanted... it had been a little soupy and I'd used Granny Smiths (because I prefer tart apples) which didn't soften up enough during baking. So I used Golden Delicious apples because they've always seemed squishier, haha. I figured the consistency would be better, but I had no idea about taste. And then I didn't have enough brown sugar... I probably only had a third of what I should have used. So I ended up throwing in some dark corn syrup and some extra granulated sugar. And somehow it came out perfect! It even looked gorgeous. The crust was just right and I'd gone all fancy with it by using some extra crust dough to make decorative shapes on top. :-P Everyone who tried it at work said it was fantastic. *Proud Kirky* ^_^

And my final distraction was watching a few episodes of Hell Girl thanks to Netflix. I mostly put it on my list because it seemed to have potential to be a pretty-looking anime. And I think I like it! We'll see... I'll finish off the first DVD tonight when I get home.

Speaking of which, I need to get out of here. It's already after 8:00!! I've been at this computer for two and a half hours. Oooh, but first I have to stop in Newbury Comics if they're still open because I want to look for the new Shiny Toy Guns album. I got an email notification from iTunes about it, but of course I don't have frickin' internet at home to purchase anything on iTunes. Apparently the chick singer left the band and they have a new girl. So I'm all curious now.

Love to everyone out there!

P.S. I had a huge lunch of pineapple fried rice from the Thai place in Belmont today, and I'm STILL stuffed. I keep burping the flavor... haha, not that anyone wanted to know that. :-P
